Here’s episode 14 of our AYT in Isolation series and we’re talking to Olivia Munk who is part of the very exciting company, Part of the Main.
The bearer of many hats, Olivia has worked as a producer (Theatre on Tap, Old Red Lion theatre, 2019), Director (Bloody Mary, various US venues & Greenwich theatre, 2019/20) and writer for publications such as The Stage and Harvard Magazine. Her work has also been shortlisted for the Les Enfants Terribles Award. Part of the Main are a company dedicated to creating space for female and non-binary-identifying theatre professionals. They create and produce plays that show the interiority of women and non-binary characters, that portray them as the confusing, complex, and nuanced humans they are.
Olivia talks to Grace Quigley about an (inevitable) loss of work at this year’s Brighton and Edinburgh festivals; running 12 workshops in one go (!); why it is important to train female, trans and non-binary people in positions they would otherwise not be seen; what she thinks should be done to make the theatre industry much more diverse; how we should use our privilege, plus much, much more.
