Live music, choreography and promenade performance combine to capture the spirit of Berlin  in the 1980s: a city at the front line of the Cold War and a hotbed of artistic exploration
An English musician flees London to seek renewed freedom, prestige and romance on the wrong side of the Iron Curtain. His new world is exotic, lonely, liberating and claustrophobic: a city with innumerable barriers with both lovers and prisoners as inhabitants. When his son arrives from home to settle old scores, the glamour of his new life quickly fades and a creeping sickness takes hold. Finding himself washed-up, facing an ugly past and a bleak future, an unlikely guardian angel appears and through the power of beautiful music and faith in strange magic, impenetrable doors are broken down, opening up a dark but shining pathway to bliss, to heaven.

Set in Battersea’s Testbed1, the raw aesthetic of this sprawling industrial space and the promenade nature of the experience will tap into the creative energy of that time and place and reflect on a dangerous, brutal but ultimately liberating period of history, sound-tracked by music from artists such as Can, Neu!, Klaus Nomi, Iggy Pop and David Bowie.
