As Christmas approaches, and a certain film set in a galaxy far, far away opens around the world, a London theatre have announced a festive Star Wars week.

Theatre N16 have announced Monologues from Mos Eisley, a week run of a comedy, cabaret, and drama showcase, from December 14 to 17.

All shorts are to be set in the Star Wars universe, ahead of Star Wars: The Force Awakens opening in cinemas on December 17.

Artistic Director James Eastlake said: “We had a gap in our program due to an opera cancelling and due to the nature of being a brand new fringe theatre we couldn’t leave the gap unfilled so wanted to do something nice and Christmassy.

“At first it was definitely going to be a traditional panto, then it was definitely going to be an adult panto then somehow this adult panto has turned into a theatrical parody ode to Star Wars.

“We saw all the buzz around the release and spoke to a few playwrights and managed to get together a bunch of super short plays that tell the stories of a few lesser known/ made up characters in the Star Wars universe.

“It’s tied together with a few fan stories which make it really strike a chord with fans.”

The show includes shorts about the much maligned Jar-Jar Binks, who really is underneath those Stormtrooper helmets, and if a certain cantina band know any more songs.

It features work from Steve Robertson and John Hickman, James C Ferguson, Victoria Taylor Roberts, and Philip Lawrence.

Mr Eastlake added: “Although the general feel of the week is cabaret/comedy/sketchy there is some real heart in some of the pieces and some really beautiful moments because of just how beautiful the writing is.

“It’s a light hearted happy go lucky end to what has been an amazing opening of our new space in Balham.”

Theatre N16 is a fringe venue, recently opened in England’s capital.

They say they are “founded by young people, for young people”, with schemes in place to help young creatives and operate without hire fee for some companies.
