Jessica Walker

Jessica trained in African contemporary dance at The Place, and went on to achieve a first class Dance degree from De Montfort University. She investigates Afro-Caribbean and Contemporary fusion dance styles, her Jamaican-German heritage, and the place of the Mixed-Race choreographer. Jessica’s most recent choreographic work Exit Eve was shown as part of Channel 4’s Random Acts platform; her autobiographical work Tick the Box (Mixed/Other) was performed at Let’s Dance International Frontiers 2016 festival. She has also worked as Rehearsal Assistant for Henri Oguike and spoken at national dance events, including the Black Women In Dance conference alongside Urban Bush Women’s Jawole Willa Jo Zollar, ADAD’s Mercy Nabirye and Phoenix Dance Theatre’s Sharon Watson. Her work as Dance Ambassador for One Dance UK sees her engage in advocacy for the dance industry and connecting with politicians and dance industry academics.
