It’s a good job Hannibal Buress is such a likeable performer; with a CV like his it’d be very easy to be jealous. At only 28 he has already written for shows such as Saturday Night Live and 30 Rock, and is starting to generate serious buzz.

From the off it’s easy to see why. Hannibal oozes confidence from behind his casual demeanour and almost every sentence out of his mouth is worthy of a laugh. His observations are so acute you can hardly breathe for laughing, and you can barely catch your breath before Hannibal winds you with another joke.

He covers potentially difficult topics such as his experiences of racism with a light touch, telling stories that are more about his own naivety than anything else (making him somehow even more endearing!). Hannibal is seemingly exasperated by everything, from semi-colons and interviews to the ability of his Grand Theft Auto “girlfriend” to survive being shot in the face.

There’s a good reason he’s achieved so much, so young: Hannibal is really, really, really funny. Every person inside the venue was snorting with laughter, continually wiping tears from their cheeks. Instantly relatable, endearingly confused and still appropriately confident it must be impossible not to like Hannibal and his show. Go and see him before he moves from the tiny Pleasance Upstairs to the O2 arena. Trust me.

At the Pleasance Upstairs 9.45pm until August 29th
