The Regional Theatre Young Director’s Scheme (RTYDS) is the UK’s longest running training scheme for young theatre directors. The scheme provides exceptional professional training for the directors and artistic directors of the future. It aims to bring together the most exciting emerging directors and the UK’s leading regional theatre companies.
Applications are now open for the RTYDS’s 18-Month Residency for individual emerging directors.
This paid residency (£19,000 gross per annum) is for talented emerging directors who have no less than 18 months professional experience and clear commitment to a career as a director. This residency is highly competitive and we can give the opportunity to no more than four emerging directors in 2014.
The application form for directors is now online and the deadline to apply is noon Monday 4th August.
The participating theatres this year are:
• Birmingham Repertory Theatre
• Northern Stage
• Royal & Derngate, Northampton
• Salisbury Playhouse
Each theatre will take one resident director for a period of 18 months; the residency will begin in January 2015.
Before applying please ensure you have read the information, guidelines, and application guidelines on the RTYDS website. Each participating theatre has also put together an information pack which provides information about each theatre’s building, programme, staff and spaces.
All applicants will be invited to attend a 10 minute, one-on-one, informal meeting with a member of the RTYDS team. The meeting will supplement your application so you should do your best to ensure you can make one of these meetings. However, if you are unable to make one of the meetings the team will do their best to arrange a phone or Skype conversation.
