A season including new commissions and a world premiere has been announced today by Royal & Derngate, Northampton.
The theatre introduced its 2015 Made in Northampton season, which will tour to over 24 venues nationwide.
James Dacre, Royal & Derngate’s artistic director spoke to AYT about the announcement: “It is an epic season of ambitious plays.
“They have been chosen or commissioned because I believe that each reflects and considers an experience of life in Britain today.”
The program includes a world premiere of Arthur Miller’s The Hook and new commissions from Dawn King, Ron Hutchinson and Oladipo Agboluaje amongst others.
The new season of epic plays travels back in time to the 12th century for Shakespeare’s King John, and forward to 2540 in Dawn King’s new version of Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World.
Dacre said that he aimed for the season to reflect the energy and range synonymous with Royal & Derngate.
There are collaborations nationwide with the theatre co producing The Hook with Liverpool Everyman & Playhouse, The Herbal Bed with English Touring Theatre and Rose Theatre Kingston, and Cyrano De Bergerac with Northern Stage.
Lorne Campbell, artistic director of Northern Stage said the collaboration: “Allows us both to create something this ambitious for our stages.”
Dacre said he wanted the Royal & Derngate to “de-mystify” the theatre production process and create a “seabed of emerging talent.”
