A London based theatre company are looking for a number of homes to perform in across the city.

The Theatre Royal Stratford East are looking for 30 homes across London to not only stage their performance in, but to create shows about for Home Theatre (UK).

It is hoped at least half of these homes will be volunteered by people who do not usually attend the theatre.

Shawab Iqbal, the producer, said: “We want to bring the magic of theatre directly to people, for free, rather than them coming to us.

“Home Theatre is completely about engaging a wide range of diverse London residents, many of whom for whatever reason do not visit  the theatre very often.

“For many this will be financial, or feeling it’s not part of their world.

“By bringing a performance to someone’s home, we are increasing access for all to the art form, something which has been at the core of Theatre Royal Stratford East’s values since the days of Joan Littlewood.”

The 30 performances will be one-person shows taking place on October 17, and the hosts are encouraged to invite family and friends over to watch for free.

The application deadline for the scheme is August 21.

Home Theatre first started in London in 2013, and has since been performed across the world, including in Brazil.

There are also plans to take the idea to South Africa, as well as Birmingham in the Autumn.

Daniel Tuffour, one of the 2013 hosts, said: “I’m so glad that I took part in Home Theatre.

“When Saturday arrived, I didn’t know what to expect. My performance artist really captured my story in a way which I would never have thought was possible.

“The performance had everything I wanted to see. She sang, acted and took me and my friends on a roller-coaster of emotions. I’d definitely do it again.”

After all the performances, there will then be an international symposium on home theatre at the Theatre Royal Stratford East on October 19.

Home Theatre is funded by The Gulbenkian Foundation and The Gibbs Charitable Trust.
