Our friends at the Lyric Hammersmith are offering AYT readers the chance to win 2 tickets to Edward Bond’s Saved at the Lyric Hammersmith on Saturday 9th October. It’s the first time that Bond has given permission for the show to be performed in London since 1984. Taking up the challenge of this epic play is Lyric Hammersmith’s Artistic Director Sean Holmes, and given his hand at Sarah Kane’s Blasted (read our review here) you’re in for a treat.

06 Oct – 05 Nov
Lyric Artistic Director Sean Holmes stages Edward Bond’s revolutionary masterpiece.
Saved is a disturbing and visionary account of life in the modern city. As relevant today as during its sensational premiere in 1965 the play, originally banned and prosecuted, was fundamental in the abolition of theatre censorship.
The play is a vivid portrait of life in South London. Widely acknowledged to be one of the plays that changed the landscape of British theatre, Sean Holmes recently said ‘(Saved) is a play which challenges and provokes; it asks difficult questions of people and society. More than any play, this is the play I’ve most wanted to do, and now feels like the right time to do it.’
Tickets just £12.50 from 06 – 12 Oct
13 Oct – 05 Nov £12.50 – £35
April 2012 will see the Lyric celebrate the work of Edward Bond as Sean Holmes, together with the dramatist himself, revive three of Bond’s one act plays; Chair, The Under Room and Have I None. See www.lyric.co.uk for more information.
