New writing is booming with London offering a hotbed of opportunities to see the latest playwrights ahead of their big debuts, which gives us great excitement to offer two pairs of tickets to the Hotbed Festival Double-Bill at Theatre503.
Hotbed Festival Double-Bill
15 October – 9 November 2013, 7.45pm; 5pm Sundays
Selected from the outstanding 2013 Cambridge Festival of New Writing, a one-act play (Why Can’t We Live Together?) and two short pieces (from the What’s Up Doc? series), presented as a double-bill of instant quality and lasting depth.
WHY CAN’T WE LIVE TOGETHER?
by Steve Waters (Bush, Donmar Warehouse)
Set against the low hum of the War on Terror, this is a kaleidoscopic vision of our times through the lives of one man and one woman. Short, sharp and brilliantly observed, life flickers in front of us at break-neck speed.
You’re asking me to be somebody I didn’t know I was going to be until you suddenly realised you wanted me to be that person.
WHAT’S UP DOC?
Two short new pieces written in collaboration with ‘Thought Leaders’; experts in their field.
by Craig Baxter (STAGE prize winner 2011); Collaborator: Professor Richard Horner, University of Toronto.
Nyxie sleeps. As she sleeps, she talks…
You’re really good at going to sleep, aren’t you?… Not like me. No, I’m rubbish…
How To Begin
by Hisham Matar (Booker prize nominee); Collaborator: Dr Devorah Baum, University of Southampton
We began and I told her.
Again, I spoke and I told her. I was precise. Precise. I sat her down and was – precise. We’d like to offer two pairs of tickets to any performance between Friday 18 October to Saturday 9 November
